Moonpennies on West Pender St. Vancouver

Nanzaro went for a run at the Stanley Park seawall on his day off, early in the morning.

After his run, he went for his breakfast at Moonpennies at Coal Harbour.

Moonpennies serves breakfast all day.

Nanzaro had the Two Egg Breakfast for CAD9. He had the sunny side up eggs and multigrain toast, sausage and housemade potatoes. It’s just a typical western breakfast.

He had coffee to go with his breakfast.

The bill came to CAD12.30 including tax and tips.

Credit card is accepted here.

The Grille Restaurant at Country Meadows Golf Club, Richmond

Emily H organized a get-to-gather upon her return trip from Taiwan. She suggested The Grille Restaurant at Country Meadows Golf Club in Richmond as her son used to play here.

IMG_6208

It was a great day to be out as the sun is out after several gloomy and rainy days. Many golfers were out too as the parking lot was quite full.

IMG_6220

We were there when the restaurant just open, so we were able to secure a window seat.

The view of the golf course from our seat.

IMG_6226

The decor is quite rustic.

I ordered the Original Meadows Burger with an upgrade of french fries to yam fries. It was a big burger and quite messy to eat. The yam fries costs $1.50 more. Continue reading

Dine Out Vancouver 2015: Harold’s Bistro & Bar on Westminster Hwy, Richmond

Polly, CC, JK and I met up for a Dine Out Vancouver event. I picked Harold’s Bistro & Bar for the convenience of all as we all live in Richmond. Free parking is available for diners at Harold’s Bistro & Bar at the outdoor and indoor parking. You have to inform the hostess of your license plate number.

IMG_2658

The Dine Out Dinner Menu is $28. Complementary bread with butter. I like the one with cranberry.

IMG_2661

There were 3 options for the appetizers, entrees and desserts. Since there were 4 of us, we ordered one of each and picked a double for items we like most for sharing.

We had two servings of the Mussels with White Wine/Shallots/Garlic/Cream and Garlic Bread. Unfortunately, the mussels were very small and skinny.

IMG_2660

The second appetizer is Tomato Tart. It is puff pastry topped with mascarpone cheese, oven dried tomato, balsamic glaze and served with arugula and frisee. The only problem is it is really small to share among the 4 of us.

IMG_2659

The third appetizer is Duck Spring Roll made with handmade Peking duck and served with spicy sauce and Asian slaw.

IMG_2662

For the entree, the star was the 6-oz Moroccan rub/grilled Lamb Sirloin served with eggplant/Israeli couscous pilaf and whiskey jus Lie. The lamb was tender and it’s a good serving. We were glad that we ordered two servings of this. Continue reading

Meat & Bread, Gastown

Nanzaro had to go to downtown to pick up his Scotia Bank Half Marathon running kit from the Conventional Center on Friday. The run was on yesterday, Sunday, 22 Jun.

IMG_20140621_091034

This is his second half marathon after his first attempt last year. He enjoys running especially with the company of so many people.

IMG_20140620_120931

Since he was in downtown, he went for lunch at Meat & Bread in Gastown.

IMG_20140401_110131

He had tried the popular Porchetta sandwich a while ago and he enjoyed it so much that he wants to return to try their daily special.

Ladies Night Out at Chill Winston, Gastown

I met up with Angie of seasaltwithfood.com, Polly and Whitney on a Thursday evening for dinner. It has been a long time since the four of us seen each other.

014

We met in Gastown because Whitney works in the neighbourhood. So, Whitney has the honour to pick the restaurant. After consulting with her foodie colleague, she suggested Chill Winston for its great patio and its a great place to hang out without being hinted to leave by the server after the meal.

013

The above was the view from our seat by the window. Unfortunately, it was a rainy night and we could not seat at the patio.

002

Polly and Angie had a glass of Rose and Pinot Gris to start with. A 8oz glass is $14.50. Whitney and me are not alcoholic drinkers as our face will look like the Rose above after a few sips. So, we just had H2O.

001

We ordered food that can be shared from the menu. First item was a Poutine. The poutine came with grated cheese and not cheese curds. The gravy was on the saltier side.  A rather small serving for $12. Continue reading

White Spot for High School Graduation Celebration

It’s another milestone of Nanzaro’s life; high school graduation.

022

He was just an elementary school boy when Ben and I started this blog. Time flies.

Nanzaro

The star of the day wanted dinner at White Spot. So, White Spot it is.

030

Ben and Nanzaro each had a Chocolate Milk Shake. Super sweet and thick. Ben shared his with me.

034

Nanzaro had a Triple Triple burger. I just cannot imagine eating such a big burger. The juice dripped all over his plate as he tried to squeeze the burger to get a bite into it.

0331

The burger came with coleslaw and unlimited fries but none of us who had fries asked for a refill. Continue reading

A Walk in Enchanted Storybrooke and Lunch at Charthouse Restaurant

Emily, Lorna, Marian and I had a get together during the spring break. Emily brought a girl friend along.

Storybrooke-01

We decided to meet in Steveston Village. Coincidentally, it was the week where the filming of the season finale was taking place. Some of the building facet and store fronts were transformed into the theme of Storybrooke.

Storybrooke-04

The Steveston Cannery Cafe transformed into Granny’s Cafe.

Storybrooke-06

The Tourist Information Center transformed into the Storybrooke Post Office. More Storybrooke scenes at the end of this post.

The view from the restaurant overlooking the whaft is amazing.

Charthouse-Restaurant-Steveston-Village-05

We started off with the Soup of the Day. It’s a seafood medley soup priced at $4.50. It was creamy and flavourful. Probably the best dish we had among the rest that we ordered.

Charthouse-Restaurant-Steveston-Village-09

We had a Caesar Salad with Cajun Chicken as appetizer. It was $11.95.

Charthouse-Restaurant-Steveston-Village-08

This is one of the special of the day; Salmon Burger with Yam Fries. It’s served open faced and the salmon is drizzled with teriyaki sauce. Lorna loves the thickly cut yam fries. The special is $10.95. Continue reading

JJ’s Restaurant (VCC) on West Pender St., Vancouver

Lorna, Marian, Michelle (Marian’s daughter) and I met up for lunch at JJ’s Restaurant (VCC).

JJ's-Restaurant-VCC-17

JJ;s Dining Room & Lounge is the practical ground for the Vancouver’s Culinary College.

JJ's-Restaurant-VCC-3

The restaurant is spacious and the decoration is simple but elegant.

JJ's-Restaurant-VCC-2

We were seated right in front of a wall TV which has online feed of the kitchen in action.

JJ's-Restaurant-VCC-1

The table setting is of western style.

JJ's-Restaurant-VCC-4

Complimentary warm bread and butter to start the meal.

JJ's-Restaurant-VCC-5

I had the Charred Vancouver Island octoput, chorizo and chick pea stew for appetizer. It is $4. We found that the octopus was a tad too chewy. The chorizo and chick pea stew was good though with a light spiciness in it.

JJ's-Restaurant-VCC-6

Marian had the soup of the day which was a lentil soup. It was quite bland. The soup is $2.50.

JJ's-Restaurant-VCC-7

Lorna ordered the Salmon, prawn and scallion cake topped with pea shoots for appetizer. It is $4. This was pretty good as the seafood cake was crunchy on the outside. The Thai lemon grass sauce was slightly tangy and went well with the seafood cake.

JJ's-Restaurant-VCC-8

Michelle’s appetizer looked the prettiest. The Shrimp and Avocado Salad is $4.00.  Continue reading

Casa Pinoy Restaurant on Bridgeport Road, Richmond

Casa Pinoy has been on our list of places to go for a long while. Apparently, this restaurant has been in business since March 2011.

Casa-Pinoy-Richmond-10

Casa Pinoy is located on Bridgeport Road, in an industrial area. From the outside, it is a very unassuming place. It’s name indicates that it’s a Filipino restaurant.

Casa-Pinoy-Richmond-11

But, the sign above will let you that there are a variety of food that you can have here. I brought Arkensen and Nanzaro here merely for the variety of food that we can have. That way, everyone is happy.

We came on a Saturday afternoon. It was not busy. I guess it’s more busy during the week days when the work force around the area come out for lunch. This restaurant seats about 50.

Casa-Pinoy-Richmond-1

I had a coconut juice with pulp for $2.25. It came in a large can of 500ml. It is very refreshing with mild sweetness. The boys did not order a drink because they wanted to have the $1 McDonald’s ice coffee summer deal after lunch.

I came here for their Filipino dishes. I ordered the Chicken Inasal which was recommendation by the server. This is $8.99.
