Torta Persian Cuisine in Henderson Place Mall, Coquitlam

After the Lafarge Lake visit was cut short by the weather, we went to the nearby Henderson Place Mall for lunch.

We love this mall for it’s variety of Asian and Middle Eastern Cuisines.

This time, the mall seemed more busy than our previous visits. This time, we decided to try the Torta Persian Cuisine.

We picked their specialty Dizi Sangi to try as we saw a copy of a local Chinese newspaper cut out with the photo of Dizi meal pasted in the stall front. We were told that it will take 10 minutes for the food to be heated up.

Karakoram Restaurant in Victoria Drive, Vancouver

On a weekend, my family went to Karakoram Restaurant for lunch.

Karakoram Restaurant took over Tibisti which was also a middle eastern restaurant which offered all you can eat.

We were there before noon and the restaurant was very quiet. It is still an all you can eat place.

We went to take a quick look at the buffet before we decided to go ahead with the all you can eat at $14.99 per person. The above are the salad and condiment bar.

Daddy’s Grill on No. 5 Road, Richmond

Ben and I went to Daddy’s Grill on No. 5 Road after Sunday church service.

We arrived just a few minutes before 1PM and the restaurant had just opened for business for the day.

We were one of the first customers of the day but the place quickly filled up. Customer places order and pay at the counter and then find their own seat.

We ordered a couple items to share. The first item is Cholo Vaziri; a combination of two skewers of meat served with basmati rice, grilled tomato, house salad and tzatziki.

Baghdad Cafe on Seymour St., Vancouver

Baghdad Cafe is Nanzaro’s favourite place to eat during his school days. He can easily hop on the skytrain to downtown before his class.

This time he ordered the Shawafel platter for $10.50.

He had chicken shawarma which has a crisp from the shaving from the outer layer and some moist chicken from the inside shaving.

He really like the falafel which is super crispy on the outside.

He also likes the tabbouleh, garlic sauce and hummus on the side.

Donair Stop on Granville St., Vancouver

This is another of Nanzaro’s eating adventure.

He was in downtown and he went for a quick bite at Donair Stop. He loves middle eastern food.

He got a lamb platter for CAD13 including tax and tips. He commented that the tabbouleh was too minty. He prefers Baghdad Cafe over Donair Stop.

Shawarma Palace at Sands Plaza, Richmond

On a weekend evening, Ben, I and Arkensen went out for dinner. Nanzaro opted out to dine out as he was watching a hockey game. It’s the season for ice hockey again.

Ben wanted something light and picked Shawarma Palace as we have not been here before except for Nanzaro.

Customer orders and pays at the counter. The food is prepared right in front of the customers.

Ben and I shared a Mixed Platter for $12.99. The platter comes with salad, spicy garlic potatoes, rice and hummus.

Afghan Chopan at Richmond Public Market, Richmond

My family had wanted to check out the newly opened Afghan Chopan on the first level of Richmond Public Market a couple or more months ago. However, it only opens at 12:00PM and most of the time when we were around the area, it was not open yet.

This time, we came here for dinner. The boys said how come the door has Chinese characters on it. This is because Afghan Chopan took over a Chinese restaurant in this location.

At one far end of the restaurant, there is a raised floor area lined with cushion and carpet for people who would like to dine sitting on the floor. Definitely not for us.

We went for the smallest special combos for family which serves for 4 to 5. It is $59.95.

First came to the table was three vegetable dishes, eggplant, mixed beans and spinach.

You can eat the vegetables with pita bread which was served at the same time.

Next came the rice with raisins and carrots. The boys likes the flavoured basmati rice, except for the sweet and plump raisins.

Baghdad Cafe on Seymour Street, Vancouver

Nanzaro and I were in downtown to run errands. We had some time to kill before our next errand. We decided to get a bite as it was almost lunch hour.

Nanzaro picked the Baghdad Cafe as he likes middle eastern food.

Since I was not that hungry, I just taxed on his order. He went for the Mixed Kebab Platter. The server told us that it will take 10 minutes for it to be prepared.

It came with two type of meat skewers, chicken and beef.

You get to pick the sauces and Nanzaro got some of each which include garlic, hummus and tzatziki.

He also got to pick a salad. As usual, I had most of the tabouleh. I made a simple wrap with the pita bread while Nanzaro had most of the rice and meat.

Shawarma Palace at Sands Plaza, Richmond

Nanzaro is a big fan of middle eastern food. When he found out that there is a new sharwama restaurant at Sands Plaza, he went to check it out.

Sharwama Palace originated from Ontario.

You order at the counter and pick the ingredients that you like, just like Subway.

Nanzaro ordered a Beef Sharwarma Combo with a side of their recommended garlic potatoes. The potatoes was good, just like what he likes.

The wrap was average as it was not spicy enough for him. He still prefers Abdul’s Sharwarma. Moreover Shawarma Palace does not have the lamb option.

Al Bhasa on Blundell Road, Richmond

Lorna called me to go for “yum cha” on a weekday. “Yum cha” generally meant to go for dim sum for Hongkong people.

I suggested middle eastern food instead. I remembered Nanzaro told me about a sharwama place in Blundell and Garden City Road.

This restaurant used to be operated by Filipino but now it looks like it’s more authentic as the owner is of middle eastern descendant.

We ordered two items to share.
