LR organized a mini chowdown at 89 degrees Shanghai Fusion Cuisine. Attendees included retired food blogger Karl of The Friday Lunch and Dennis the Foodie and missus (Wendy).

89 degrees Shanghai Fusion Cuisine is a family run restaurant.

I like the signage stands outside the restaurant which are loaded with pictures.

We left the ordering to Karl as he seems to be quite a regular here.

Menu with photos is always a good thing.

IMG_6345

A table full of food. Here are what Karl ordered.

IMG_6335

Drunken Chicken. The wine flavour is definitely pronounced.

IMG_6337

Sliced Pork Belly with Garlic Sauce. I preferred the version from S&W Pepper House which has a stronger garlic flavour.

IMG_6339

Hot & Sour Soup is mildly spicy.

IMG_6344

Fried Shanghai Noodle for carbo.

IMG_6343

Pork in Garlic Chili Sauce was good, quite spicy and saucy. This is great with steamed rice.

IMG_6336

Fried Long Beans was good too as they retained the crispness in them.

IMG_6347

Malay Laksa with Seafood is definitely not a Shanghai dish. But it was good with the right amount of spiciness.

IMG_6348

Xiao Long Bao was LR’s request. They were just ok, not too juicy.

IMG_6346

Crispy Salty Pepper Chicken was Wendy’s (Dennis missus) order. She likes to order food that she will not cook at home.

IMG_6342

Last main dish was Ginger Beef, a Canadian invention.

IMG_6349

Wendy took the liberty to order a couple of dessert. There is always room for dessert for me. She ordered the Red Bean Paste Pancake. They were not too oily or sweet.

IMG_6350

The above dessert was from the secret menu. The secret menu is more to traditional Shanghai dish. We should have ordered from this secret menu from the beginning. However, there is no picture on this menu and it’s in Chinese only.

The dessert above is Osmanthus with Fermented Rice Wine Dessert Soup with Sesame Filled Glutinous Rice Ball. There were some discussions on what is osmanthus when the dessert arrived.

IMG_6351

Osmanthus is the little specs of flowers in the soup. Osmanthus give a nice scent to the soup.

IMG_6353

The meal came to CAD25 per person including tips. The service is friendly here.

IMG_6352

There were a lot of leftovers for each of us to take home some.

We really like the rice scoop here. Ben likes it so much that he got one from Ebay immediately, just $1.30.
